LIST: Landline Area Codes in the Philippines

You might be a first-time telephone user or simply someone forgetful of numbers who wants to search for a certain Philippine landline area code. Don’t worry; this post has all the Philippines’ area codes and a guide on how to use them. I assure you that this list will be of great assistance, especially if you dislike memorizing several sets of numbers like me.

Here is some knowledge you should have before looking at the area codes. A landline phone number’s area code, usually two digits, is input first. This helps to locate the phone number and direct the call to the correct local exchange. Especially without an area code, making long-distance calls, like NDD (for national) or IDD (for international), would be challenging. The phone system of the Philippines depends on several area codes.

Philippines Area Codes

ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector assigned an international dialing code of 63 for the Philippines.

Telephone numbers consist of:

  • 8 digits – for area code 2 (including Metro Manila, Rizal, Bacoor in Cavite, and San Pedro in Laguna)
  • 7 digits – for area codes from 3X to 8X (with area codes fixed at one, two, or three digits)

In 2019, all telephone numbers under area code 2 had been migrated to eight digits as mandated by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) per Memorandum Order No. 10-10-2017. NTC has assigned the following telco identifiers:

  • 3000-YYYY to 3499-YYYY: Bayan Telecommunications (BayanTel)
  • 5300-YYYY to 5799-YYYY: Eastern Communications
  • 6000-YYYY to 6699-YYYY: ABS-CBN Convergence
  • 7XXX-YYYY: Globe Telecom / Innove Communications
  • 8XXX-YYYY: PLDT / Digital Telecommunications

The initial digit of a given area code is determined by the grouping of areas into seven broad categories:

  • Area 2 – National Capital Region, Rizal, Cavite (Bacoor), and Laguna (San Pedro)
  • Area 3 – Western and Central Visayas
  • Area 4 – Southern Tagalog (Calabarzon and Mimaropa) and Central Luzon
  • Area 5 – Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region
  • Area 6 – Central and Western Mindanao (Bangsamoro, Northern Soccsksargen, and Zamboanga Peninsula)
  • Area 7 – Northern Luzon (Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region, and Cordillera Administrative Region)
  • Area 8 – Eastern, Northern, and Southern Mindanao (including Davao Region, Caraga and Southern Soccsksargen)

How to use the Philippines area code?

Area codes are not necessary when calling phone numbers inside a certain area code since the Philippines uses an open dial plan, save for mobile and payphone calls. Therefore, no matter where you are, you always have to key in the area code if your mobile phone is calling a landline number.

Conversely, the domestic long-distance access prefix 0 is dropped when calling from foreign locales but inserted when dialing other area codes.

For example, a typical telephone number in Metro Manila and Rizal (with area code 2) would appear as follows:

  • Within Metro Manila, Rizal, and cities of San Pedro and Bacoor: 8123-4567
  • Outside Metro Manila, Rizal, and cities of San Pedro and Bacoor: 02-8123-4567
  • Overseas calls: +63-2-8123-4567
